REGARDING STUDENT'S FULL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF ALL RISKS FOR ANY AND ALL ALCOHOL USE OR CONSUMPTION AND ABSOLUTE RELEASE OF ITALY ABROAD PROGRAM AND WAIVER OF ITALY ABROAD PROGRAM LIABILITY, AGREEING TO HOLD HARMLESS, DEFEND AND INDEMNIFY ITALY ABROAD PROGRAM. 1. Italy Abroad Program operates in Italy, which has laws prohibiting, controlling, and regulating uses and consumption of alcoholic drinks including wine, beer and liquor, especially by minors. 2. Each University or College sponsoring an Italy Abroad Program may have its own prohibitions and restrictions, which it requires to be applied to the use and consumption of alcohol by its students enrolled in Italy Abroad Program in Italy. 3. Accordingly, each Italy Abroad Program student is individually and personally responsible for complying with all legal requirements of the nation where they are located, the rules and regulations of his/her sponsoring University or College and Italy Abroad Program's requirements as described in this Agreement and otherwise. 4. Any and all consumption or usage of alcohol by an Italy Abroad Program student is wholly the student's own personal responsibility. Each student is responsible to inform himself or herself of the country's laws, his/her University's or College's rules, and Italy Abroad Program rules before using or consuming alcoholic beverages. Legally underage students are absolutely prohibited from consuming alcohol, and may be expelled from an Italy Abroad Program session without recourse or refund if they violate this rule. 5. Italy Abroad Program does not act in loco parentis, and a student's full responsibility for complying with alcohol consumption rules is not reduced in any way whatsoever whether or not Italy Abroad Program may, or may not act as an alcohol "policeman". Warning: the most severe consequences may be applied by Italy Abroad Program to any violation of applicable rules, whether or not such rules were previously enforced, and irrespective of how they were previously enforced. 6. Consequences for prohibited uses or abuses of alcohol, at Italy Abroad Program's sole discretion, include without limitation: temporary suspension, probation, immediate dismissal from an Italy Abroad Program, and eviction from residence facilities, without recourse or refund. 7. Italy Abroad Program acknowledges that the culture of a host country such as Italy, may promote the consumption of alcohol from time to time: whether wine, beer, liquor or other beverages. When Italy Abroad Program deems it to be appropriate, Italy Abroad Program may provide occasional social or program access to alcoholic beverages on a strictly optional basis. On such occasions each student remains wholly and individually responsible for complying with applicable rules irrespective of usage by others, and no student is required to or expected to consume alcohol. 8. Italy Abroad Program's good standing, acceptance, and reputation in its host country is adversely affected if and when Italy Abroad Program students are arrested or otherwise involved in civil or criminal proceedings where alcohol use is implicated. Italy Abroad Program reserves full discretion to prohibit the use of alcohol by specific students, and/or all students, or to establish conditions for such use or consumption while enrolled in an Italy Abroad Program session, whether such use is on Italy Abroad Program-sponsored premises or otherwise. 9. As an Italy Abroad Program student I understand and agree that Italy Abroad Program will not assume any responsibility whatsoever should I, or another student, choose to consume alcohol, and I understand that alcohol is a drug, which can cause serious health consequences and unacceptable behavior manifestations, which could lead to expulsion from my program and residence without any refund. 10. In consideration of me being permitted to be enrolled in an Italy Abroad Program session, I hereby accept all the above conditions, and I agree to conform to all applicable rules and regulations. I understand that even one violation of such rules and regulations may result in my immediate dismissal from my Italy Abroad Program session without refund or recourse, or other severe penalties, at Italy Abroad Program's sole discretion. 11. I understand and agree that Italy Abroad Program's policies apply to me whether I consume alcohol on or off Italy Abroad Program's premises, so long as I am enrolled in an Italy Abroad Program session. I understand that these policies include rules that may prohibit consumption of alcohol in the student residences. 12. I hereby agree to hold harmless, indemnify and defend Italy Abroad Program, its employees, agents, partners, and representatives from any claims, costs including attorney's fees, actions, arbitrations, lawsuits, and otherwise, arising out of or in connection with use or consumption of alcohol by me while I am a participant in an Italy Abroad Program session and/or utilizing facilities provided by Italy Abroad Program. 13. I understand that I have a right to consult with my own attorney before signing this document which I agree shall be constructed to be a General Release and Waiver of all rights and claims: past, present, and future, against Italy Abroad Program, its employees, agents, partners, representatives, contractors, successors, and assigns, directly or indirectly relating to the use or consumption of alcohol by me.
14.I further understand that I shall not be entitled to participate in any Italy Abroad Program unless I agree to this agreement.

Remember that as you travel abroad, you are a U.S. ambassador and are a reflection of IAP and your home university. You are expected to respect your community and abide by the rules and laws of the host country. 1) Purpose The following Code of Student Responsibility outlines standards of student conduct and serves to promote an environment that fosters a safe and enriching study abroad experience for all students, enabling personal growth, cultural engagement, and academic excellence. 2) Student Responsibilities I understand it is my responsibility to research and understand issues that relate to health, safety, political, legal, and cultural norms and expectations in the host country. I assume responsibility for all elements necessary for my personal preparation for the program, including full participation in orientation, and acquisition of proper documentation such as, but not limited to: - Valid passport – if you already have a passport, check its expiration date! Accommodations include fully furnished apartments and hotels, all centrally located. Apartments will have multiple rooms with double/triple occupancy. Italian law prohibits overnight guests. Students understand that should a student permit a guest to remain overnight, it shall be a material breach of this Contract and student shall likely be immediately expelled from program housing without recourse or refund, in Italy Abroad Program's discretion. Each student is solely responsible for the security and safe-keeping of his/her personal property, valuables, and other property for which the student is responsible. Neither the hotels, owner of the housing units, nor Italy Abroad Program shall be in any respect liable for losses of a student's personal property, valuables, and other property for which the student is responsible. Italy Abroad Program requires students to obtain commercial insurance to protect themselves, their valuables, and property for which they are legally responsible while overseas. Student hereby acknowledges that he/she is solely responsible for any and all such property loses whether or not he/she obtains sufficient private insurance. Also, each student is solely responsible for determining limitations and inclusions of coverage under any insurance policy. Students' personal safety and health are a primary concern of Italy Abroad Program. Accordingly, students are expected to be observant of conditions in the apartment that they suspect may pose undue risks of fire (such as non-functioning smoke alarms), or other risks to health or safety. Please report the details immediately in writing to your professor or Italy Abroad Program so they may take prompt remedial action. IMPORTANT: Charges shall be billed to a student's credit card for any non-standard housing charges or damages caused, excess utilities usage costs, any fines incurred but not otherwise paid, as well as any other damages or non-standard charges incurred by the student. Each student is jointly and severally liable with the student's roommate(s), for damages and misuse of the room(s), facilities, and furnishings if individual liability cannot be easily determined. Charges, if any, are normally applied within three months of students' departure from Italy, and an itemized accounting of charges applied will be provided to each student. In the event charges for such damages or non-standard costs exceed the balance in a student's account, they will be separately billed. Credit card information will be kept on file in case of future damages. I understand that my entitlement to reside in the program housing and accommodations is conditioned upon me conforming to the above requirements and that any violation of the terms of this contract will result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate expulsion from the program without refund or recourse. I understand that if I withdraw from the program or am expelled, I will vacate the property immediately.
